My cooking has a rustic character influenced by generations of family farmers and homesteaders, living in communities where food is considered fundamental to living life everyday. Using fresh, local ingredients, grown by your family or neighbors, and practicing the art of improvisation, where you cook with what you have on-hand, is central to cooking in agricultural communities. I grew up working in my mother’s various food businesses. She owned and operated a restaurant, catering business, and sandwich shop. It was certainly a family endeavor—which, for me, provided a valuable education about food, cooking, and all aspects of a food business.
I have an undergraduate degree in science and two graduate degrees in education. I’ve worked as a teacher, school administrator, teacher educator, and researcher. This blog is the ideal way to combine my formal training as an educator and my passion and background with cooking. I hope you find it both inspiring and useful.
